FUTURE OF TOURISM WORLD SUMMIT
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the Advanced Leadership Foundation and the INCYDE Foundation of the Chambers of Commerce of Spain, held the World Summit “Future of Tourism” on 26 and 27 October 2021 in Barcelona, Spain.
It is the first edition of this event that, we are convinced, will mark a benchmark for the industry in the years to come.
Objective
The World Tourism Summit has the main objective, to find solutions to the future of the tourism industry, not only in Spain but in the rest of the world. Its result was the Barcelona Declaration, where the world’s top authorities and actors in the tourism world will commit themselves to a series of measures to protect and promote post-COVID tourism.
The Idea
The first World Tourism Summit was a pioneering event that addressed the challenges we face as a global society, as well as an industry, with an updated approach and combining diverse perspectives, experiences and professional perspectives. Its final result was the broadcast of the “Barcelona Call to Action”.
More than 125 speakers from more than 27 countries worked together to find solutions to the challenges posed by tourism worldwide after Covid-19, to develop collaborative systems to make the crisis an opportunity for shared progress and to contribute to global economic recovery.
The inauguration was held by Reyes Maroto, Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism of Spain, Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (WTO), Juan Verde, President of the Advanced Leadership Foundation, Jorge Brown, Vice President of the Advanced Leadership Foundation, José Luis Bonet, President of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce and the INCYDE Foundation, Roger Torrent, Minister of Business and Labour of the Generalitat de Catalunya, and Jaume Collboni, First Deputy Mayor of Barcelona City Council.
